Greetings parea walkers, sadly yesterdays walk will be the last of the spring season as it’s getting a bit too hot! Our thanks to all of you who have joined our walks, especially our guest leaders. We have discovered some fabulous new routes and enjoyed your company immensely. So now, roll on September and watch this space! We wish you all a great summer,
All the best  Chris & Kate

Greetings everyone, Liz is our guest leader this Sunday, a new walk to us and it sounds great! Meeting point is 10am at the bus stop at Kastania and you will need to take a simple packed lunch with you. The walk itself is a walk of two halves - a gradual climb up through Kastania to the saddle of the mountain at about 1000m where you get great views of the southern Mani  (including Tigani), we will stop here for lunch. Once over the saddle, there are great views of Kalamata to the north as we descend to the Kings Forest track and Saidona. It’s track all the way and takes about 4 hours excluding the stop. We can have a well earned beer at the end in the Taverna at Kastania. We will have cars waiting where the forest track re-joins the tarmac road outside Saidona to ferry walkers back to Kastania. If you could let us know if you will be coming it will help us with making transport arrangements.
Hope you can make it and see you there.
Chris & Kate

Greetings everyone, firstly a big thank you to Roger for showing us the beautiful route from Ag Nikon to Trachila yesterday, definitely one to do again, the attached photo doesn’t do it justice. Next Sunday the 29th the walk is down part of the Viros gorge, meet 10am at Faraggi hotel Exochori and finish in Kardamyli. The walk is around 2.5 hours and starts through the village of Kato Chora then down to the gorge, churches, monastery and stunning views included. You can enjoy a swim at Kardamyli at the end of the walk and it would be advisable to arrange your own transport to return from Kardamyli to Exochori as necessary. The terrace at the Faraggi hotel is a great place for a cold drink/lunch. Sturdy footwear essential!  Hope you can make it.

Greetings everyone, next walk April 22nd ,very kindly led by Roger Marchant, will be from Ag Nikon down to Trachila for a coffee break and then along the coast to Pantazi beach for a swim. If you don’t know Ag Nikon it’s on the way to Oitylo, the main road goes through it. The meeting place in Ag Nikon is the village square by the church at 10 am. Car parking is not easy except along the road just outside the village. The walk will be a total of about 10 km and should take about in 3.5 hours. The route down from Ag Nikon to Trachila is mostly wide gravel vehicle track becoming a narrow stoney path and from Trachila to Pantazi is along a quiet coastal road. Water is available in Trachila and there is also a kafenion. We will have a car waiting at Pantazi to take drivers back to Ag Nikon. If anyone needs a lift to Ag Nikon we will be coming from Exochori and passing through Stoupa about 0930, so please contact us in advance if interested. Hope to see you there. Chris & Kate

Greetings everyone, this Sunday, 15th April, the walk is from Malta to Kardamyli, a lovely old kalderimi and great coastal views, about 2/2.5 hours. We will catch the bus from Kardamyli at 10am or thereabouts or you could get on the same bus a bit earlier at Stoupa if that's easier. The forecast is hot, 29C, so plenty of water and a hat! We can have a swim at the end of the walk. Hope to see you there. Chris & Kate

There will be a weekday walk Thursday 22nd March from Neo Oitylo to Aeropoli and back, about 90 minutes each way, we can have coffee in Aeropoli and lunch in Neo Oitylo at the end of the walk if you wish. Meet at the Black Pirate taverna at Neo Oitylo on the beach road at 10am.  We forgot that the 25th March is the Taygetos challenge so we will cancel this date and make the same walk with Janet & Steve on Sunday 1st April.  Chris & Kate

Greetings everybody,
Firstly thank you to those of you who are around at the moment and came along for our first walk last Sunday 11th, it was a beautiful day, the wild flowers were fabulous and special thanks to Lee and Janet for taking such great photos and we of course finished with a refreshing cold beer! Our plan is to make a walk every Sunday, meeting somewhere at 10.00, until around the end of May or when it gets too hot.  Next Sunday 18th we will be meeting at 10.00 outside pefco kafenion in Exochori for a short and fairly easy 1.5 hour walk.
We have been asked if there could also be a weekday walk so we will email with more details when we have decided when and where this will be.  In the meantime we have put together a schedule for the spring walks which is attached, we have tried to incorporate walks of different lengths and grades so hopefully something for everyone.  We have also left some dates free as we would like to offer other walkers the opportunity to lead and introduce new walks to us all.  If you would like to fill one of these spots then please email us with the details.  Hope to see you next Sunday.  With best wishes
Kate & Chris

Message from Ursula and Walter: Unfortunately, we have to tell you that we will give up leading the parea - walks.  It is not an easy decision for us, but there are several reasons:
In future, we plan to spend more time in our home country.  Our health (knees, hips etc) is also making it more difficult. It would be nice if there were someone (single, couple or team) willing to take over from us. We will of course help with our knowledge of the walks in the area.  It was a wonderful time for us, walking with you in the fantastic Mani landscape. Ursula and Walter (AP 1-3-18)

For over 10 years, Parea sti Mani has planned a series of walks, each winter season (September to May). These are escorted walks which enable newcomers to learn about some of the wonderful walks in the area. They are also an opportunity for people from all over the area to get together.  The walks are only planned a week or so in advance, to make allowances for weather. This way they can pick a day and route appropriately. If you would like to be kept informed about forthcoming walks please email them at
