After three months away, Christina Maria has returned to Stoupa and is looking forward to working for the Parea sti Mani.

’News from the Town Hall’: We are hoping to have a feature about local community matters such as health care and rubbish collection, based on the Greek ’Town Hall Gazette’. We also hope to include details of who to contact about various aspects of life such as, water supply and road maintenance. With this in mind, we would like you to tell us ’What YOU would like to ask the Mayor?’ so when we are investigating, we can ask the questions that matter to you.
’Thank you for giving blood’: The local authority of Lefktron thanks the community, especially their European friends, for their great contribution to the local blood bank. 43 bottles of blood were collected on May 20th. The next blood donation session will be on September 30th (9.30 - 13.30) at Ag. Nikolaos Health Centre
Autumn Elections: We have been asked to encourage all foreign residents to use their vote in the November elections. As background information we have put some details of the current municipalities of Lefktron and Avia in our information section MUNICIPALITY LEFKTRO
Internet fraud: Ioannis Antoniadis, who is running the Art Courses in Stoupa, has had his email address list taken over by a fraudulent business, and asks you to ignore any emails claiming to be from him. He is NOT selling Viagra or anything else at the moment.
Veterinary services in the area: As some of you know, Evangelos Papadimitrios already makes regular home visits in the Stoupa area, and there is now another Kalamata vet, Kostas Antonopoulos, who will make home visits. See our Animal Welfare page
There is a new book-swap for English books in Tsoumeas Travel by the harbour in Ag Nikolaos. They would also be pleased to receive donations of books.
Milea Arts and Crafts Centre: After many difficult months coping with the new Greek laws for small businesses, Idun was able to reopen her Milea studio in August. Newsletter from the pottery studio is in the August Archive. Contact information is also on on our Tips...Shopping page.

FOLLOW UP
First Aid Course: On August 19th 8 foreigners and 15 Greek speakers attended the free first aid course on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation at the Ag Nikolaos Health Centre. It was a great opportunity to get the feel of doing CPR as we had a dummy to try it on. With a lot of laughs, we also practised some of the procedures on each other. See ABC of CPR . Details of the various CPR procedures are on our First Aid page, but this is no substitute for getting the feel of doing it. Watch out for details of future courses.
Voula’s meetings: On August 5th the meeting was not as planned. Instead, it was devoted to discussions about the proposed mobile phone mast in Stoupa, Voula explained the background of the project and why there is such concern amongst locals. see VODAFONE PROTEST
